World Quality
Week was celebrated on 8th November 2023 at
Hotel Suba International, Mumbai. The theme of
this year’s event was “Quality: Realizing your
competitive potential”. Mr. Shivkumar
Vishwanathan introduced the event and the two
speakers.
The first speaker was Mr. S. Ramachandra, Consultant (Marketing, Corporate Strategy & International Operations), Littler Associates, Chennai. He presented an interesting scenario about the turnaround of an automotive battery company and how better monitoring tied to a robust sales and marketing strategy changed the fortunes of the company. The second speaker, Mr. Mrinal Kanti Banerjee discussed about his experience of introducing innovation in laminated tubes by introducing recycled material (PCR) through innovation and creativity and how it raised the competitive potential of the company. Mr. Shivkumar then presented the results of an online survey that was conducted by the Quality Forum on this years theme. A set of seven questions were posed to a variety of respondents online and the responses obtained were discussed at the event. The meeting ended with vote of thanks by Mr. Shivkumar and a sumptuous dinner. On the occasion of World Quality Week 2023, QualityForum released our newsletter, Quality Quest. Survey On the theme –

Summary on Survey conducted:
The Survey was conducted as a blind randomized survey on the theme – “Realizing your Competitive Potential”. It was presented by Mr. Shivkumar Vishwanathan. The total number of responses were 29 and the survey was conducted across industry within different sectors. The questions were : 1. Please specify whether your "'organization''
4. Your organization realizes its competitive potential by (Select all that apply)
The response received were analyzed to give the following output. 1. 35 % responses were from Manufacturing sector whereas around 65% responses were from Service industry. 2. 75 % responses said that they have formal Quality Management System in place and 15 % responses said ‘No’, whereas 10 % were not sure about the Quality Management System in their workplace. 3. Other interesting insight from the survey was out of 10 responses from Manufacturing industry 9 responses said that they have a formal Quality Management System like ISO 9001, Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen, Total Quality Management etc at their workplace. Out of 19 responses from the service industry 13 responses answered that they are having formal Quality Management System in place and 4 responses said they do not have a system and 2 responses were not sure of having Quality Management System at work place. 4.
